Isaiah — 6 Nrsv
Isaiah is called to proclaim a message of judgment and warning to the people of Judah, but it is a message that they will not understand or heed. Isaiah responds to this commission with a question:
Isaiah recognizes that he is not worthy to be in the presence of God, and he feels overwhelmed by his own sinfulness and the sinfulness of his people. He fears that he will be destroyed by God’s holy presence. But God does not destroy Isaiah. Instead, one of the seraphim takes a burning coal from the altar and touches it to Isaiah’s lips, saying: isaiah 6 nrsv
”‘Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses are without people, and the land is a desolate waste; and the Lord removes people far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land.
